PLAGUE OF OPINIONS
.
.
I used to have a lot of opinions
I had an opinion on just about everything
The Battle of Stalingrad, pangolins, chocolate chip pancakes
I could pronounce an opinion on all and sundry
I don't know why I had all these opinions
Or where a lot of them came from
Some were inherited, or as a reaction to my upbringing
Being oppositional to what they tried to install
As the opinions I "should" have
My opinions gave me an identity
Other than that they weren't good for much
Actually limiting my adventurous spirit
Fortunately, over time
I have shed the colorful coat of opinions
Which gradually became a straight jacket
Limiting my experiences, putting me at odds with others
Nowadays I just need the lightweight cloak of personal preferences
Much easier to move around, negotiate with others
And fully explore my options, previously limited
By the nasty rash of opinions I have recovered from
