The death of a friendly young woman just prior to the next election doesn’t put Sheriff Rhodes on the hot-seat, but the following murders do, as he finds the evidence leading him close to home. A bit of folksy humor, a strong plot with careful mis-direction, and a nice twist at the end, make this a good first novel. Slow paced but not annoyingly so, and the characters are wonderful. "
