SCULPTING SADNESS
.
.
Life had dropped a big gray monolithic block
Of misery and despair
Directly in the path, blocking the way
Almost blotting out the Sun
With its icy shadow
The only thing to do was to
Start chipping away at it, chisel blow
By resounding chisel blow, striking
Using what strength and power
Can be gotten from within
Letting the chips fall where they may
Hard tedious work, day after day
Until it was sculpted into something more manageable
Useful ...or even beautiful
A monument to patience, effort
The noble ability of the soul to rise
Above and create something good
Something enduring and inspiring
Perhaps for the ages to come
