ALIENS HAVEN'T KILLED US
.
.
Aliens haven't killed us
We might be delicious
The Earth might be a treasure trove of natural resources
Our planet might be ideal for colonization
Yet aliens haven't killed us
Probably for the same reason that we don't travel to South America
Hack our way through dense jungles
Until we find one specific ant
And stomp on it
But we have not done that
Sought out and killed one insignific-ant
Because it is simply not worth the effort
There would be no compelling advantage gained
And the ant is virtually anonymous
Invisible in the vast expanse of jungle
Not the focus of a civilization so advanced they seem magical
Once in a while a scientist might assemble an exploration team
To fight their way through the obstacles
At great expense and effort
To observe the ants in their natural environment
Or even abduct one
Swooping down from above with bright lights and scientific equipment
Which would be alarming and mysterious to the other ants
If they were capable of wondering what happened to
One of them, and if one was returned
What a strange unbelievable tale they would tell
Of being lifted up, taken to some sterile laboratory
And examined inside and out
I think we might benefit from being quiet, unnoticed
Unobserved, in our travels around the Milky Way
