AT THE FAIR
.
.
IT'S NOT FAIR! said every child everywhere
They are correct
It's not fair - not nature, not the human heart, not fate
Yet we have the idea of fairness as something that should be
Where is this fairness that is lacking in nature, human ego and fate?
It is within our hearts and minds
We know fairness and unfairness when we see it
We feel the sting of unfairness when we are treated unfairly
This is perhaps the most hopeful sign that could ever be
That our minds hold up the jewel of fairness as a lens
Through which we see the world
We are moved by unfairness, moved to try and set things right
A god like power if ever there was one.
