FIRST PERSON
.
.
When things get out of control
We need to get things back in control
What things would that be?
Number One, first and foremost
We must get control of our emotional reactions
The pounding heart, shallow rapid breath
Racing fragmented thoughts, shaking
But how? How do we get control of these
Physical symptoms of distress?
By controliing our thoughts
We must replace the tsunami of panic
With the gentle tide of reason
Letting useful thoughts wash in slowly, calmly
"All is not lost"
"I can handle this"
"I'm not the first person to deal with this situation"
"I will find a way"
"This is not my fault"
"This can be fixed"
Calm reason washing hypnotically in and out
If this is too hard, find a pal to remind you
Of what a good, worthwhile, competent person you are
And the first person you must love, nurture and respect
Is you
