Poem I wrote

MORAL COMPASS

.

.

Some people have morals, ethics, standards

They operate with a level of awareness

That includes the needs and rights of others

Some people don't have these inner guideposts

For them, getting what they want, by hook or by crook

Is the gold standard

Damage to others is just collateral damage in their quest for self

.

.

The problem is, at first glance, you can't tell the difference

Often the ones that look and sound the best

Are the worst of these self-centered people

Only time, sometimes a lot of time

Will tell you who you are dealing with

The bad ones will eventually sink in an ocean of lies

The good ones will shine, maybe not dazzlingly

Yet they gladden your heart with kindness

So you feel safe with them day after day.
