A pathologist is on the stand during a wrongful death trial.
The lawyer asks the pathologist, "How can you be so sure the patient had died? Did you check his pulse?"
The pathologist replies, "No."
The lawyer asks again, "Did you listen to his heart with your stethoscope?"
"No."
"Did you listen for breath sounds?"
"No."
The lawyer grins, "Then, I will ask you one more time, how did you know he was dead?"
The pathologist replies, "Well his brain was sitting in a pan on the scale, but I guess he could have been practicing law somewhere."
