Quote of the day ....
.
.
.
Literature is an uttering, or outering, of the human imagination. It lets the shadowy forms of thought and feeling — heaven, hell, monsters, angels and all — out into the light, where we can take a good look at them and perhaps come to a better understanding of who we are and what we want, and what the limits to those wants may be. Understanding the imagination is no longer a pastime, but a necessity; because increasingly, if we can imagine it, we'll be able to do it.
- Margaret Atwood, "Why We Need Science Fiction", "The Guardian"

If they arrest a mime on COPS do they tell him he has the right to remain silent?
If they have to shoot a mime do they need to use a silencer?

"The moon will never lie to anyone. Be like the moon. No one hates the moon or wants to kill it. The moon does not take antidepressants and never gets sent to prison. The moon never shot a guy in the face and ran away. The moon has been around a long time and has never tried to rip anyone off. The moon does not care who you want to touch or what color you are. The moon treats everyone the same. The moon never tries to get in on the guest list or use your name to impress others. Be like the moon. When others insult or belittle in an attempt to elevate themselves, the moon sits passively and watches, never lowering itself to anything that weak. The moon is beautiful and bright. It needs no makeup to look beautiful. The moon never shoves clouds out of its way so it can be seen. The moon needs not fame or money to be powerful. The moon never asks you to go to war to defend it. Be like the moon."

Quote of the day .....

"A library is a good place to go when you feel unhappy, for there, in a book, you may find encouragement and comfort. A library is a good place to go when you feel bewildered or undecided, for there, in a book, you may have your question answered. Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people - people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book."

Quote of the day .....
.
.
.
I first noticed something odd was going on around my thirteenth birthday. Being self absorbed as most teenagers are, I wasn't a keen observer of the world around me unless it directly impacted my comfort or social status. I obsessed about my appearance, keeping my parents from finding out about my failing math grade, and a cute guy with a convertible named Ronnie.
But slowly it dawned on me that there was a full moon and there had been a full moon, every night for as long as I could remember. I started looking out my bedroom window each night to sigh and dream of car rides with Ronnie. Each night there was a big bright full moon moving slowly in a graceful luminous arc across the dazzling night sky. This went on for weeks. I finally had to admit to myself that this was really really strange.

So the America I loved still exists, if not in the White House or the Supreme Court or the Senate or the House of Representatives or the media. The America I love still exists at the front desks of our public libraries."
