DOWN BY THE RIVER

If the river was whiskey

And you were a diving duck

You'd dive in the river

And never would come up

While I stand on the shore

A co-dependent clown

Waiting to see

If you will swim or drown

DUST TO DUST

I have abandoned altars

Where once I worshipped devoutly

But now those gods are dead

Their shrines covered in dust

The candles unlit, the silver tarnished

The place where I once stood in reverence

Empty

My mind has flown like a dove

To find more fertile lands

SQUANDERED - STEP ONE

When should he give up?

Raise his white flag in surrender

When should he admit defeat?

His best efforts have utterly failed

His good intentions were all in vain

The silence when he asks for answers

Is deafening

The veil of self-deception has been lifted

From eyes full of pain and confusion

His substance squandered

Betrayed by a Judas kiss

Abandoned by the stranger in the mirror

He waits, for death or rebirth

Standing at the fork in the road
