20 - Sookie Stackhouse and Eric Northman Look to the Future - Part Two

Chapter Twenty

"Must?" I asked. "Is this due to Eric commanding you to apologize?"

I wanted to know if the apology was being forced out of her. Obviously it would not mean much if she was being compelled to say she was sorry. Eric, as her Maker, still had some real power over her, unlike the situation with Eric and me.

She laughed gaily, her light girlish voice reminding me of just how young she was, nineteen in human terms, when she was Turned. In vampire years she was centuries old.

"No, no, Sookie. Not at all. I am truly sorry for my harsh assessment of your behavior. Master can take care of himself. If he was content with things the way they were then that should have been sufficient for me."

"But it wasn't?" I asked.

"You said I was jealous. That started me thinking about my motives. In the end I saw you were right. Jealousy was what prompted me to berate you. I am genuinely sorry for that."

Was she telling me she was still in love with Eric? Was she trying to redefine our relationship to include her as Eric's other vampire "wife"?

That just wasn't going to fly.

"I accept your apology Pam. No hard feelings. Eric is a great man, he will not treat you with any less care than he has in the past."

I chose my words carefully. I wanted to reassure her of her place and put her in her place at the same time.

"It was not you I was jealous of, it was Eric. I had hoped, perhaps I should say fantasized, that I might be your Maker. I hoped you would sense that you and I could have a special relationship, a very special relationship."

She sat back and crossed her slim shapely legs, her costly silver stiletto shoe dangling from the toes of her upper leg in a sexy way.

It took me a second to grasp what she was saying. She wanted to be my Maker?

How weird was that? As I thought I realized it wasn't all that weird. Pam had no boundaries when it came to sex partners. Male, female, old, young, I had seen her at various times with every make and model of human. But me?

"Pam, I'm flattered but surely you know more than anyone that I belong to Eric in every way. He was my natural choice as a Maker."

Even as I said this I remembered that at one time I had been worried Eric would gain too much control over me if he was my Maker. At that time I had been thinking Anna Hita might be a good choice for me.

In the end I decided it would be Eric. I trusted him utterly. It turned out he had very little control over me as my Maker, my unusual telepathic nature almost completely blocked his Maker's power to compel me just as it had blocked his vampire ability to glamour me when I was human.

"Yes, yes, however that didn't take away my disappointment at your decision. Tell me, if I had made my desire known to you would you have considered me as a Maker?" Her head tilted slightly waiting for my answer.

"I ...I honestly can't answer that, Pam. My brother wanted you to be his Maker. When you refused I stopped thinking of you in those terms."

That wasn't strictly true. I had never considered Pam as a possible Maker but I was hoping to re-introduce her to the notion of Turning Jason. He was the nearest thing to me in the human/fairy blood mix and he was very dear to my heart.

I realized that manipulating Pam this way was not a moral problem for me. Was this part of my new vampire nature or was I just still irritated with Pam for refusing to Turn Jason and giving me a tongue lashing? I couldn't tell.

"Jason ..." she mused thoughtfully. "His blood is the same as yours?"

"It should be. Our fairy heritage has manifested itself differently in us but the blood should be the same."

Jason was practically irresistible to human women due to his fairy blood and a vigorous daily routine at the gym. I didn't think my telepathy had anything to do with my fairy heritage since I was a direct descendant of Anna Hita. She was, literally, the mother of all telepaths.

"I might entertain Jason's offer since you are no longer available," she said slowly, her mental wheels spinning at this new idea. "I could always order the disagreeable elements out of his character once I am his Maker."

I didn't mention that Eric had very little Maker power over me. Unlike me, Jason could be glamoured. He might not have the same resistance to vampire powers I did.

It bothered me that Pam would want to tailor make Jason's personality to suit her, though I certainly understood why she might want to. How many times had I wished I could tone down his arrogance, thoughtlessness and self-centeredness? Too many to count. Over the years his personality had mellowed out and he seemed fine to me now that he was a husband and father.

I didn't know how much luck Pam would have as his Maker to rewrite his whole persona. In my experience glamour only went so far.

I had fairy longevity and now I was vampire. I would appear to remain in my early twenties until my final death. Jason had neither of these benefits and every day that passed grated on him. Right now he was handsome, distinguished and mature. Another twenty years and he would begin to look old. I hoped to hurry Pam along. She might have decades to decide but Jason's biological clock was ticking.

"You accept my apology?" Pam asked, returning to the original point of our conversation.

"Completely. We are good with each other. Together we can back up Eric in any situation," I said, standing.

"You can also back me up, as I would protect you," she said, standing also.

We stood there, united by our mutual Maker and our vampire bond. She smiled and I smiled back. Her fangs were out but mine were not.

We did not hug, it was not the Vampire way. I was glad.

  2. Great Chapter...I guess Pam is testing the waters to see if Sookie has lost some of her inhibitions sexually now that she is a Vamp....I wonder how Eric would take to this. I would love it if Pam would turn Jason.....that would be AWESOME! With Jason's impulsiveness--he would be a great baby Vamp and a challenge for Pam!

Welcome Raminta and S to our little corner of the world....it's great over here LOL!

  4. Lol, only Pam to think that Sookie would even think of her to be her Maker :p

I'm with Cindy, Jason as a vampire would be a lot of trouble to Pam, if she can't control him as Eric can't control Sookie :s

But if she could control him, I guess it could be awesome, a new vampire, and all in the family xD

But what about Angelica? Would she like that? Be with a vampire, take care all day alone of their kid? Hum...

I'm glad to know that Pam and Sookie are in good terms again. I was waiting for that, things without Pam aren't the same! Now they can have some adventure, and Pam can help them if they need :D

    Thanks Eros! :D

    A happy 2012 for everyone :)

  5. wow that conversation was not what i expected...i thought that pam would want to know about her talents, abilities, and adjustment. interesting turn of events *!* wonder if jason might be next...

does sookie's blood and scent still smell different and like fae to vampires? as pam noted the blood, i was uncertain if there is still something other about sookie despite her Turning.

hope 2012 going well for all. EA~ i appreciate your dedication and commitment to your stories and our community. you will never be alone, and i doubt you will ever be crazy either ;-p thanks for taking the time to make this happen. it was a wonderful moment of the day- just for moi...see you next time.

It would be interesting if Pam did turn Jason, but at what cost. I'm wondering how good of a maker she would be. Either way, i'm LOVING your work as usual. Your writing has kept me going while the show is not on and while waiting for the latest Sookie books to come out...LOL. Thankyou so much. I'm sure you've kept many of us TB fans out here from going insane.... :0)

  7. Yup, I love the idea of Jason as a vamp. Pam as his maker would keep it all in the family. I think he would give her a run for her money. I do hope it comes to pass.

Eros I chuckled at your crazy lady comment. A few think I'm crazy for loving this story and getting into True blood and books. I like this kind of crazy, so please keep it up!

  9. Hello friends!
(Sally, Z, Char, Catarina, duckbutt, Cindy, angela, and I've probably left out a lot of you, but hello all!)
What a twist in the story. Pam wanted to be Sookie's maker, who knew? I wonder if she will turn Jason though. That would be something.

Eros, I appreciate you writing for our enjoyment here without missing a beat. It must take a lot of work. I'm trying to put a chapter in every other day or so for my own work, and it is taking real dedication. How did you manage when you put out a chapter everyday? We were spoiled rotten! It makes me appreciate you more! Thank you!

  10. I am surprised that Pam was still hoping to be the Maker of Sookie as Eric gave her an order before that Sookie is off limits and for his fangs only. Very nice chapter- thanks EO. I will crazily follow your stories no matter what so please keep on writing.

  11. Apologies Eros- I typed EO by mistake. Sorry.

  12. Ha! I do think that Pam was testing Sookie's new vampire boundaries --and probably hoping that now Eric would share inf Sookie showed any positive movement toward experimentation with Pam.

Jason turning --Pam being his Maker! Ugh -I suspect there would be a lot of head butting with that. Jason can be as stubborn as his sibling. And...would he want to live on, frozen forever at his age, while his wife and child aged and died? I don't think he's that selfish now --not like he would have been years before.

On to the next chapter. For some reason, I'm having a hard time within me to remember the posting schedule --so I'm behind in providing feedback --

Just so you know Eros, this is one of my favorite stories out there.
